Underwater Mesambria

The hidden beneath the waves Mesambria became the subject of a survey, which caused the team of Archaeologia Bulgarica to board the ship “Hristina”, to forget about the seasickness and to follow with the camera the work of the specialists in underwater archaeology. Well, we abide by the quarantine – the footage is from the end of 2019, yet it is not known when the work will resume there. But so far, the results are very interesting: it turns out that a large part of the ancient Nessebar is underwater, that its fortified walls are deeper than expected (and already there is a hypothesis why), and the radiocarbon analysis of the big beams found under the stone blocks will help the exact dating.
